6:30pm - 7:30pm Thinking Big and Understanding PDW (Parallel Data Warehouse) - James Rowland-Jones
Do you design and build Data Warehouses? Are you interested in learning about big data design challenges and how you can avoid them? Would you like to know more about Parallel Data Warehouse (PDW), MPP Architectures and Microsoft's Big Data Platform? If so then this is the session for you. We will visit the architectural components of PDW and look at some of the new features available in V2. We will also dive into some of the lessons learned developing systems for PDW in the field. You will leave this session understanding why you should be thinking about PDW for your data warehouse and how you can accelerate the delivery of your PDW project.
7:30pm - 8:00pm Break & Food
8:00pm – 9:00pm How to improve SQL Server performance with indexing
Indexing presents daunting challenges, as it offers countless options to choose from. Even organizing indexes in an optimal fashion can be overwhelming. But with a little help from SQL Server domain expert Richard Douglas, you’ll see how to simplify indexing and improve the overall performance of your SQL Server applications.
Richard will provide step-by-step guidance to help you:
- Find missing and unused indexes
- Resolve fragmentation issues
- Follow the golden rules of indexing
- And much more
We'll be putting on food for the event, so please do register so we know numbers. If you then can't make it we'd really appreciate it if you'd unregister and/or let us know.
Wragge & Co's office is at 55 Colmore Row, Birmingham, B3 2AS, just around the corner from the Old Joint Stock pub.
