Statement Execution, Plan Cache Bloat and Parameter Sniffing – What does it all mean?
When you execute a statement, it’s optimized and cached, right? Well, maybe… There are different ways to execute code: adhoc statements, dynamic string execution, sp_executesql, batches, and procedures. Do they all behave the same way? Are there benefits to one over the other? Absolutely! And, that’s the point of this session – to demystify the plan cache and tell you the pros and cons of different types of coding practices. In the end, you’ll be able to understand your options and know the best one to use based on your data. If you execute any code in SQL Server, you must understand this or you will have problems!
